Data Management Platform
Product: WebScope of Work: Front-end Back EndCountry:
Description of the project
A metadata management and data catalog solution designed to help organizations easily find, understand, and govern their data assets.
Developed for large-scale institutions — from public organizations such as NHS England and the Office for National Statistics to research and healthcare institutions — the platform offers a unified approach to data discovery and documentation. It enables teams to quickly locate relevant datasets, assess their quality and context, and reduce manual effort in cataloging, ultimately improving analytical efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
Client goals/requirements
The client sought ongoing support for their existing metadata management platform — along with the development of new modules extending its functionality beyond the original product scope. Initially designed as a central metadata catalog integrated with multiple external services, the project evolved into a more robust and feature-rich ecosystem.
Solution
In collaboration with the client’s team at MetadataWorks, InventorSoft engineers implemented several key enhancements to extend platform functionality and scalability.
UI/UX Enhancements
Frontend Modernization
Migrated the interface to React + Next.js, enabling faster performance, improved UX, and full SEO indexing for better search visibility.
Glossary Feature & UI Redesign
Introduced a modernized Glossary tool within the Metadata Browser to simplify navigation and improve data model understanding. This feature allows users to easily explore and compare logical and conceptual data models, supported by advanced filtering, sorting, and search options.
Accessibility Improvements
Implemented comprehensive UX accessibility updates to enhance usability for all user groups. This included reorganizing key UI elements (filters, buttons, layouts), adding contextual tooltips and helper texts, and optimizing interaction flows to ensure that even new users could quickly navigate and understand the system.
Process Automation & Governance Modules
PAM (Project Accreditation Module)
An end-to-end workflow that enables researchers to apply for access to datasets directly from the MetadataWorks catalogue.
The module includes a Dataset Basket, allowing users to select required datasets, complete customisable project application forms, and manage queries or change requests through an integrated service desk.
Researchers receive automated email notifications and can track progress through a personalised dashboard, while administrators benefit from a comprehensive overview of all applications, organisations, and projects, supported by MI reporting and flexible workflow automations
Assurance Portal
A purpose-built portal that enables organisations to demonstrate their conformance to specific data standards by submitting structured evidence as an assurance record. Once submitted, each record is reviewed by an internal assessment team, which evaluates the provided evidence and determines whether it meets the required compliance criteria.

Infrastructure & CI/CD Automation
Improved the deployment pipeline by implementing continuous integration and delivery practices, minimizing manual operations during releases, and enhancing overall system stability and delivery speed.
Mapping & Dynamic Rendering System
Implemented a flexible template-based rendering system allowing the platform to adapt its look and feel to each client’s branding. The solution supports dynamic color schemes, layouts, headers, and footers, enabling quick customization per client while maintaining a unified architecture.
Logging System
Implemented a structured logging solution to simplify debugging and system monitoring. It captures detailed logs with timestamps and formats them for clear visualization in the terminal or cloud console, enabling faster issue detection and more efficient troubleshooting.
Third-Party Integrations
Connected the platform with multiple external data catalogs and metadata management systems, including HDR, CKAN (open-source), and SAIL Data Bank, transforming the catalog into a central hub for data discovery and interoperability.
The results
The platform became significantly faster, more stable, and scalable — thanks to a complete UI redesign, DevOps automation, and continuous optimization.
System performance improved notably, with faster data processing, reliable fallback systems, and smoother feature rollouts.
Ongoing customization for individual clients made the solution more flexible and adaptable to real-world use cases, simplifying onboarding and daily operations.
